The Sequim Athletic Educational Foundation exists to raise funds for Sequim students and student athletes in the Sequim School District. We strive to provide opportunities for current students to learn from alumni and raise funds for Sequim students and their athletic department to expand educational opportunities.
In April of 2023, Kevin Kennedy, Ron Sather, and Derrin Doty met with Bruce Skinner, Director of the Port Angeles Hall of Fame event, who shared his thoughts on the dos and don’ts of starting an Athletic Hall of Fame for Sequim High School.
The Sequim group, seeking to create a memorable event while raising funds for the needs of Sequim High School sports, band, and cheerleading, decided to move forward with the idea, and targeted September 2024 for the first induction.
The next step was to create a group of dedicated members. Karin Cummins accepted the role of Treasurer and worked to establish the 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Tammy Woolridge took on secretarial duties. Derrin Doty was the first President with Ron Sather and Keven Kennedy serving as co-Vice Presidents. Brandon Funston agreed to collect biographies for the athletes to be honored and inducted into the Sequim Hall of Fame. Other Sequim High School alumni continued to step forward to fulfill roles.
The first event held at The Cedars at Dungeness honored one team, one coach and eight athletes. More than 200 athletes and guests attended the September 2024 benefit.
The Committee and generous Sequim community raised enough funds (approximately $28,000) to purchase a new wrestling mat and new sound system for the high school athletic field, as well as a new high jump and pole vault mats for the track team.
The Sequim Hall of Fame Board Members and Committee Members would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the guests, sponsors and local community members who made this initial event a great success.
